What is AEGEE (Association des Etats Généraux des Etudiants de l`Europe)?

Let us get acquainted – the antenna of European Student Forum in Latvia – AEGEE Riga. Translated it means European Students Forum. This student organization was founded in 1985 in Paris. Today it unites more than 17,000 members in 260 cities, in 42 countries. This is not an EU organization and any student from Europe can join us. AEGEE main target is to promote integration processes within Europe that is why there is no national level in AEGEE. AEGEE Riga is a quite young antenna. AEGEE Riga was founded the 20th of June, 2001. The number of members is always growing. At the moment there are more than 50 members from different universities in Latvia. The home of organization is Stockholm School of Economics in Riga – Strēlnieku Street 4a, Riga. We already have many strong traditions: AEGEE Riga chocolate cake, AEGEE Riga dance, survival game, sauna party, specific jokes, pub-crawling, energizers & gossips... And of course our already one year old tradition ;) to celebrate our birthday during boat tour. We have organized wide variety of events – SUs, WU, EDL, conferences & seminars, internal training events, information campaigns, exchanges and more. We love to take challenge and do something new – we break the ice!!! ;) AEGEE main directions: Mobility in the higher education; Peace in the Europe; Discovery of culture; Active civic society. Every day the volunteers in the whole Europe are working to organize international conferences, summer universities, "seminars on the road", festivals and long-time projects to assemble European students and debate about all important problems, to get to know the culture of country and language, to learn understand each other, to meet new friends and at last but certainly not least- just to have some fun and travel. In our country members of AEGEE promote the ideas of European integration coming true and provide information of possibilities of studying abroad. Maybe you've already heard about SOCRATES and ERASMUS programs, which can be used by every student. But that's not all, there is still large number other ways to travel and obtain extra knowledge. Why in Latvia? "Lithuania and Estonia already has such organizations for quite long time, in other countries AEGEE antennas are one of most powerful student organizations, because the mobility is the thing which should be acquainted and used during the years of studying. Owing to international collaboration net, student can find out similarities and differences of culture, and that's definitely will serve as a great step further in everyone's career."
