Multilateral Exchange projects (July 2008 – April 2009)
„Unstereotype Europe, Unstereotype Me"
This project took place in Riga and it was 6 days long (16-23 october 2008). This project was organized by AEGEE-Riga in co-operation with AEGEE-Amsterdam, AEGEE-Budapest, AEGEE-Cagliari and involved young people from Latvia, the Netherlands, Hungary and Italy - totally 40 motivated participants.
Using informal education methods - discussions, workshops, sketches, games, work in multinational team, meeting minorities (gipsy music group "Jagori" in Jelgava) - throughout the project participants had an opportunity to find out what are the similarities and differences between stereotypes in various countries, what kind of stereotypes others have about each of the participating country and are they true. Participants could find out and discuss how different stereotypes affect their daily life. Thus furthering tolerance, appropriate attitude towards stereotypes and developing common European values. Participants expressed their opinion about stereotypes about Latvia in attractive reel "Unstereotype Europe, Unstereotype Me".
This project was set under "Youth in Action" program "Multilateral Youth Exchange" and funded by European Community. To accomplish the project it was used totally 14028.34 euro.
AEGEE-Riga project was one of 4 exchange projects organized in this AEGEE local`s partnership. Other projects - "Clach of Cultures" (Amsterdam), "Shape Yourself, Shape Europe" (Budapest), "Work Together, Build Europe" (Cagliari). Projects had common themes - solidarity, tolerance, culture exchange, European awareness.
